William Jones married Sarah Stone in Groton, Middlesex Co., MA, on Feb. 15, 1763 (Sarah was b. June 12, 1739 and d. Nov. 26, 1789 in Lunenburg, MA). The marriage record is listed on http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jdevlin/ma/groton_marr_h-k.htm]
George Cunningham, who researched the Jones family sometime during the 1800s', wrote that Sarah was the "6th child and 3rd daughter of Deacon and Mary (Farwell) Stone, granddaughter of John and Sarah Stone, great-granddaughter of Deacon Smith and Sarah Smith of Groton, great-great-granddaughter of Deacon Simon and Mary (Whipple) Stone and great-great-great-granddaughter of Deacon Smith and Jane Stone who came from England in the ship "Increase", Robert Lea, master, in 1635 and settled in Watertown, Mass., where he died Sept. 22, 1655 aged 80 years." Cunningham also wrote that Sarah died Nov. 26, 1789 at the age of 50 years, 5 months and 14 days. Her tombstone inscription read: "In great composure of mind, in full hope of a glorious resurrection." Mary Farwell (Sarah's mother) is a descendant of Olive Welby who is considered to be a "gateway" ancestor to the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne. George Cunningham research in the 1800's for the Jones family shows: "William Jones was Constable in Lunenberg [as spelled in a copy of Cunningham's summary] in 1768, Collector 1768, School Committee in 1777, 1788, 1791. Both [William and his wife Sarah] renewed their baptismal covenant Nov. 11, 1864. She was admitted to full communion with the church Nov. 15, 1767 and he was admitted to the same May 24, 1772... He was a valuable citizen." |

William Jones died May 23, 1809 at the age of 70 years and 12 days. His gravestone says: We hope he has gone to realms above where all is pleasure, please and love; there to repeat the Saviour's praise and sing of his redeeming grace." [SOURCE: George A.
