Recording Pg. #156, V. 8 - Soldier's Discharge - Jas. M. Phillips -- To all whom it may concern ___ that James M. Phillips a private of Captain James A. Biggert's Company A, 16" Regiment of Wisconsin Vet. Infantry Volunteers, who was enrolled on the 30th day of March 1864 to serve three years __ during the war whereby discharged from the service of the United States this 12th day of July 1865 at Louisville Kentucky by reason of circular .... Said James M. Phillips was born in Binghampton in the State of New York, is 36 years of age, five feet six inches high, dark complexion, black eyes, dark hair and by occupation when enrolled a carpenter. Given at Louisville this 12th day of July 1865....

... Oath of Identity -- James M. Phillips of the Town of Shields, County of Marquette in the State of Wisconsin on the 26th day of September in the year 1865 personally appeared before me the undersigned a Justice of the Peace for the county-state above mentioned, who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical James M. Phillips who was a private in the company commanded by Captain James A. Biggert in the Regiment 16th commanded by Col. ____ Fairchild that he entered on the 30th day of March 1864 for the term of three years, was discharged Louisville, Kt. on the 12th day of Sept. 1865 by ___ of Circular No. 9, ___....Sworn and subscribed before me the day and year above written - C. W. Hall, Justice of the Peace - I certify that Charles W. Hall before whome this above affidavit purports to have been made is a Justice of the Peace duly authorized to administer oaths that the above is his signature... In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and offered my official seal this 27th day of September in the year A.D. 1865 at Montello in the State of Wisconsin -- G.W. Robinson, Clerk of the Circuit Court - Recorded Sept. 28, 1865
