This petition by Ernest Klawitter was denied (see his 2nd Petition filed on a different form June 23, 1923). This denied petition includes the following useful information: Ernest was a farmer who lived in Buffalo Township (Marquette Co.), Wisconsin. He was born January 6, 1885 in Fridland, Germany. He came to America through the port of Baltimore, Md. on April 7, 1893 on the vessel "Kaiser Wilhelm". He declared his intention to become a U.S. citizen on Sept. 22, 1906 in Montello. His wife's name was Gusta. She was born May 27, 1883 at Mecan Township (Marquette Co.).

He had 6 children, all born in Buffalo, Wis.: Esther (born Feb. 3, 1907), Louise (born Dec. 29, 1907), Dora (born May 12, 1911), Ella (born May 18, 1912), Della (born June 29, 1913) and Regina (born Sept. 7, 1916).

C.R. Roskie (Register of Deeds - residence: Montello, Wis.) and Herman Schmitz (County Treasurer - residence: Montello, Wis.) signed that Ernest has lived in the U.S. at least for at least 10 years. W.A. Cole was the clerk who signed this document.
