Nov. 8, 1875		 A baptismal record in Evangelical Lutheran Church said Carl August Kieck was born Nov. 8, 1875 and baptized on Nov. 28, 1875 in Mecan, Marquette Co. Parents were listed as August Kuck and Bertha Beck. Baptismal witnesses were August Luek and Henriette Schoendel. [SOURCE: David and Alice Marotz]

His World War I draft registration card said August Charley Kieck was born November 8, 1875.

Marriage:
Mar. 4, 1897 to Bertha Kruger		 A Marquette Co., WI, marriage record (Vol. 3, p. 93) says that August Karl Kick married Bertha Kruger on Mar. 4, 1897 in Mecan, Marquette Co., WI. His parents were listed as August Kick and Bertha Rack (or Raek - handwriting in record hard to read). [An umlat was over the "u" in Kruger in this record.] His wife's parents were Karl Kruger and Henriette Mietz (or Meietz - again this was hard to read). Bertha Kruger was born in the town of Marquette, Green Lake, WI. August's residence was Mecan. The wedding ceremony was performed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mecan by Rev. W.C. Rowold. Witnesses were Wilhelm Bornick and Wilhelm Bliefnick.

June 8, 1900		 A Marquette Co., WI, Evangelical Lutheran Church baptismal record said Herman August Kieck was born June 8, 1900 and baptized June 11, 1900 in their house. His parents were listed as August Kick Jr. and Bertha Krueger. Baptismal sponsors were Friedrich Klawitter and Olga Oehlke. [SOURCE: Online transcription of record by David and Alice Marotz]

A family member who knew Herman's parents told me that they had four "blue babies" who died young. Herman may be one of those children.

Child 2, 3 & 4:
Unknown		 If family oral history is correct, four children died as infants (blue babies). A small tombstone near August and his wife's graves says "Infant Son of A.C. and B.G. Kieck."

Oct. 15, 1904		 A Marquette Co., WI, Evangelical Lutheran Church baptismal record said Clara Bertha Kick was born Oct. 15, 1904 in Mecan, Marquette Co., WI, and baptized Oct. 23, 1904 in their house. Her parents were listed as August Kick and Bertha Krueger. Baptismal sponsors were Herman Schultz and Minna Kick. [SOURCE: Online transcription of record by David and Alice Marotz] Clara appears on the 1905 Wisconsin Census with her parents.
A family member who knew her said she lived in Omro, WI. A 1930 Federal Census in Washburn, Bayfield Co., WI, shows Clara may have been a boarder in a farmer's house [the age matches]:
  • head of household: George House (age 54, age when married is given but hard to read - could be 37, born in New York, father born in New York, mother born in Germany, farmer)
  • his wife Goldie House (age 41, age when married given but hard to read - could be 37 or 27, born in Indiana, parents born in Indiana)
  • boarder Clara Kieck (age 25, single, born in Wis., parents born in Wis., public school teacher)

Elsie A. Kieck		 A family member who knew her said she was a child of August and his wife Bertha. She shows up on the 1910 and 1920 census with her parents (see below). This individual also said Elsie lived in Racine, WI.
Child 8:
Walter A. Kieck		 A family member who knew him said he was a child of August and his wife Bertha. He appears on the 1920 and 1930 census with his parents (see below). A relative told me that Walter lived in Racine, WI. (see photo of Walter)
Child 9:
Irene M. Kieck 		A family member who knew her said she was a child of August and his wife Bertha. She appears in the 1920 and 1930 census with her parents (see below). A relative told me that Irene lived in DeForest, WI, and was married to Clarence Robarge.

World War I Draft Registration		 August Charley Kieck signed a World War I registration card on Sept. 12, 1918. It said his address was RFD No. 3, Markeson, Green Lake, Wis. His age was 42; born November 8, 1875. Race - white. Native born. Occupation - farmer; employer's name - "by himself." Nearest relative was: Bertha Gusta Kieck (wife) [same address]. Height - medium; build - medium; eye color - blue; hair color - light brown.
